GS. Loan Changes: Loan Limits and Exceptions (Part 1: Legislation and Provisions)

Description

The One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) introduces major changes to federal student borrowing authority. This session covers new annual and aggregate loan limits for undergraduate, graduate, professional, and parent PLUS borrowers in addition to the statutory elimination of grad PLUS loans and new caps on parent PLUS loans. It also addresses awarding for less than full-time enrollment and institutionally-limited borrowing. Learn how the updated definition of “professional” programs, emerging from negotiated rulemaking, determines whether a student qualifies for higher professional borrowing limits or the more restrictive graduate-level caps.
