Auditor, OIG Non-Federal Audit Team

William (Bill) Bennett currently works in Chicago for the Non-Federal Audit Team in the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Inspector General (ED-OIG). After working as an auditor with ED-OIG’s Chicago/Kansas City audit region for more than 20 years, Bill joined the Non-Federal Audit Team a year ago to focus on quality control reviews of single audits of recipients of ED’s funds. Bill has conducted numerous quality control reviews and complex audits of internal ED program offices and external funding recipients, including postsecondary schools, state education agencies, and local education agencies. He received a degree in finance from Northeastern Illinois University. He is also a Certified Internal Auditor, receiving a William S. Smith Certificate of Honor on the exam. In recent years, Bill has received numerous ED-OIG individual and team awards, along with a Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency Award for Excellence. When he is not conducting quality control reviews, he enjoys being active outdoors, following the Chicago Bears and Cubs, attempting to relate to his teenaged daughters, and entertaining his mini-goldendoodle.
