FSA Chief Information Officer

As chief information officer (CIO), Margaret M. Glick heads the Technology Directorate within the U.S. Department of Education’s office of Federal Student Aid (FSA).

Glick has primary responsibility for managing information technology services for all FSA systems. In her leadership role, she promotes the effective and secure use of technology to achieve FSA’s strategic objectives through sound planning, investments, integrated technology architectures and standards, effective systems development, production support, and cybersecurity services. Glick brings first-hand knowledge of the internal technology requirements necessary to serve students, parents, borrowers, and the schools that participate in the federal student aid programs. She brings a holistic view of FSA’s work that enables her to enhance how the Technology Directorate partners with offices and teams across FSA to fulfill its mission.

Glick has worked at FSA since 2016, beginning as a program analyst and, eventually, serving as director of program management services. In this role, she was responsible for operations of the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) system and managed approximately 100 people across divisions for the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program, grants and campus-based funds, funds control, and program training and school communications. Most recently, Glick served as director of the Next Gen Program Office, where—among other things—she oversaw FSA’s successful launch of new and enhanced digital tools and resources for customers, onboarding of new customer support vendors, and creation of a single data platform that houses and integrates a vast amount of FSA’s current and future systems data.

Before joining FSA, Glick worked at DePaul University in Chicago in a number of senior administrative roles, including director of operations in the Office of Financial Aid. She also has held positions at Sallie Mae.

Glick has a B.A. in political science from DePaul University.

She is married and resides with her husband on Chicago’s northside, where she cheers on the Cubs and frequents many favorite neighborhood restaurants.
