Lisa Bureau is the Director of Federal Student Aid’s Clery Group within the U.S. Department of Education. The Clery Group’s mission is to ensure compliance with campus safety requirements established by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act, among other laws. The Clery Group also oversees and ensures compliance regarding disclosures of gifts from and contracts with foreign sources by institutions of higher education under Section 117 of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA). Lisa previously held the position of Director of Investigations of the Partner Enforcement and Consumer Protection Directorate at FSA.

Before joining the U.S. Department of Education in 2019, Lisa had a long career in the private practice of law, representing institutions of higher education in maintaining their operations in compliance with applicable laws and providing guidance to institutions of higher education regarding compliance with federal rules governing the federal student aid programs authorized by Title IV of the HEA. Lisa holds a Bachelor of Arts in government from Colby College and received her Juris Doctor from Georgetown University Law Center. Lisa currently resides in Virginia and enjoys spending time with her four grandchildren.
