John F. Woolley is the Special Agent in Charge for the Midwestern Region of the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Inspector General (ED OIG), in Chicago, IL. The Midwestern Region, which covers fourteen states, conducts a wide array of complex criminal and civil investigations and regularly works with other federal, state, and local agencies to help prevent fraud, waste, and abuse in federal education programs. John joined ED OIG in November 2004. During his time with ED OIG, John has planned, directed, and conducted Title I and Title IV program fraud cases involving multiple defendants. Additionally, John has worked for the Technology Crimes Division of ED OIG, where he performed cybercriminal investigations in response to attacks against and unauthorized access of Department information system networks, databases, and computer communication systems. John was also a member of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Cyber Crimes Task Force in Chicago, IL. Before joining ED OIG, John worked as a Special Agent for the United States Customs Service conducting narcotics smuggling investigations. John also served in the U.S. Army 1st Infantry Division as an infantry soldier from 1996 through 1999. In 2001, John earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology and a Minor in History from Northern Illinois University.
