
Amy Bales is the Assistant Director for the U.S. Department of Education Office of Inspector General (ED-OIG) Non-Federal Audit Team. She assists in leading the team responsible for ensuring that audits of ED grantees meet requirements and are reliable and effective tools to improve ED programs. Amy has a strong commitment to improving governmental audit quality and is considered an expert in single audits and ED program-specific audits. Prior to joining the Non-Federal Audit Team, Amy was an auditor for the Kansas City ED-OIG audit region, where she participated in compliance and performance audits of ED, state education agencies, local education agencies, colleges, and universities. Over her nearly 15 years with ED-OIG, she has earned the ED-OIG Significant Achievement Award, Inspector General Award for Excellence, and Team Awards. Amy holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration and a Masters of Accountancy degree from the University of Central Missouri. She is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Fraud Examiner.
