Section 1: Overview

The Financial Aid Transcript (FAT) Batch Results (output) report and data file were modified for 2000-2001. This update summarizes the changes to the results report and data file, and it provides record layouts for all FAT Batch files. Note that no changes were made to the FAT Batch Request (input) file layout.

FAT Batch Results are available in two formats: as a report file formatted for printing and as a data file that can be used as an electronic flat file.


1.1 Changes to the FAT Batch Results Report
The following changes have been made to the FAT Batch Results report. Figure 1 shows these changes on the printed report.

Aggregate Amount for FFELP/Direct Loans:

Unsubsidized Loans row was added, which includes, outstanding principle balance, Pending Disbursements, and Unsubsidized Total.

Aggregate Amount for Perkins Loans:

Perkins First Disbursement flag was deleted.

Pell Payment Data Section:

Award Amount field was added.


1.2 Changes to the FAT Batch Results Data File

The following changes have been made to field definitions for FAT Batch Results data file detail records. The fields affected by these changes are shaded in the record layout tables that appear in Section 4.2.1 and Section 4.2.4 of this update.

Note: The record length was increased from 144 to 160 bytes. Also, the shaded areas in the Record Type layouts indicate the changed fields.

1.2.1 Detail Record Type 1 Changes (Section 4.2.1)

1. Aggregate Unsubsidized Outstanding Principal Balance was added (positions 84–89), which resulted in moves to the following new positions:

Aggregate Combined Outstanding Principal Balance (positions 90–95)
Aggregate FFEL Consolidation Outstanding Principal Balance (positions 96–101)
Aggregate Subsidized Pending Disbursement (positions 102–107)

2. Aggregate Unsubsidized Pending Disbursement was added (positions 108–113), which resulted in moves to the following new positions:

Aggregate Combined Pending Disbursement (positions 114–119)
Aggregate Subsidized Total (positions 120–125)

3. Aggregate Unsubsidized Total was added (positions 126–131), which resulted in moves to the following new positions:

Aggregate Combined Total (positions 132–137)
Aggregate FFEL Consolidation Total (positions 138–143)
Perkins Total Disbursement Amount (positions 144–149)
Perkins Current Award Year Disbursement Amount (positions 150–155)

4. Filler and Perkins First Disbursement Prior Flag were deleted.

5. The following moves occurred:

Error Code 2 (position 157)
Error Code 3 (position 158)
Error Code 4 (position 159)
Match Flag (position 160)


1.2.2 Detail Record Type 4 Changes (Section 4.2.4)

1. Award Amount was added (positions 118-121), which resulted in moves to the following new positions:
