Summary: End of Payment to Servicing Responses with Direct PLUS Loan Data

Posted on 04-28-2005

Dear Partner:

Recently, the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System made a change to how it processes Payment to Servicing transaction responses. This bulletin notifies schools of this change.

When a student or parent makes a payment to Direct Loan Servicing within 120 calendar days of the disbursement date, the COD System generates a Payment to Servicing response to schools' SAIG mailboxes. Prior to March 21, 2005, COD sent Payment to Servicing responses through the Message Class CRPS05OP and those responses contained information for all Direct Loan types.

With the implementation of 2005-2006 COD System Functionality, it was discovered that some schools were unable to import the Payment to Servicing responses. The situation was limited to Payment to Servicing responses containing PLUS loan data. The error message EDExpress schools received was "Unable to Import File". (Schools using different software may have received a similar error message or a message indicating that the Borrower tag is required.)

As a result of the issue, COD no longer sends Payment to Servicing responses to schools containing PLUS loan data. However, COD will continue to send Payment to Servicing responses to schools containing data for Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans. Additionally, schools may access the COD Web site's Person Direct Loan Additional Eligibility Information screen to view payment information on a borrower's PLUS, Subsidized, and Unsubsidized Loan. Payment to Servicing responses will not be sent for an award year in which your school is closed out.

If your school has questions about this bulletin or the Payment to Servicing response, please contact the COD School Relations Center at 800/848-0978 or by e-mail CODSupport@acs-inc.com.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Bill Leith
