Subject: Direct Loan Servicing System and Web Site Outage November 24-28, 2004
Dear Partner:
This bulletin is to notify schools of a system outage that will affect the Direct Loan Servicing System (DLSS) and the Direct Loan Servicing web site (www.dl.ed.gov). This system outage is necessary to complete several system upgrades to the DLSS and will impact both schools and borrowers.
The DLSS and the Direct Loan Servicing web site (used by both schools and borrowers) will be unavailable from 10:00 PM (ET) Wednesday, November 24, 2004 through 6:00 AM (ET) Sunday, November 28, 2004.
Impact to Schools
- Schools will not be able to access the school portion of the Direct Loan Servicing web site (www.dl.ed.gov/schools) or its related functions.
- The DLSS will accept information from the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System during the outage period. However, files will not be processed until after the outage ends.
Impact to Borrowers
- Borrowers will not be able to access the Direct Loan Servicing web site. As a result, borrowers will not be able to access their account information via the web site. In addition, they will not be able to access borrower account information via the automated telephone voice-response unit.
- Borrowers may call the Direct Loan Servicing Center with general questions; however, Customer Service Representatives will not be able to answer specific account questions. Borrowers will need to call the Direct Loan Servicing Center with their specific account questions after the system is back online.
We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve the Direct Loan Servicing System. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Direct Loan Program.
Sincerely,
Bill Leith
