Subject: AOL Connection to eMPN Web Site
Dear Partner:
This bulletin addresses some concerns about the availability of the Electronic Master Promissory Note (eMPN) website, https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/, particularly for borrowers who use AOL as their web browser.
eMPN Compatibility Issue with AOL Users
The AOL browser is based on Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE), but does not implement all of the features and functions of IE. As a result, the AOL browser does have problems working with the eMPN website. In coordination with AOL Technical Support, a simple work around has been developed. The borrower must:
1. Connect to AOL.
2. Minimize the AOL screen.
3. Launch a compatible browser, such as IE or Netscape Navigator, to connect to the eMPN site.
Directions for using AOL with the eMPN website are available on the Site Assistance page (https://lo-online.ed.gov/empn/unsecure/siteassistance.jsp). A hyperlink entitled "AOL Users please click here for important information on using this site" is placed prominently at the bottom of both the Subsidized/Unsubsidized and PLUS eMPN screens that will take AOL users directly to these instructions.
General eMPN Availability
The eMPN website has experienced tremendous growth as more schools switch to electronic processing. This increased volume has affected the overall availability of the website. However, we have made some improvements, including upgrading software and system architecture, to enhance performance. We will continue to monitor the process and to look for additional ways to improve website availability.
If you or your borrowers have any further questions about the eMPN website, please refer to the site assistance information on the website. You may also contact COD School Relations at 800/848-0978 or by email at codsupport@acs-inc.com. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Direct Loan
Program.
Sincerely,
