Subject: Browser Setting Tips for Borrowers Using Online Entrance and Exit Counseling

Dear Partner,

Some borrowers can experience problems in maintaining their connection to the Direct Loan Servicing Website when they use the online entrance and exit counseling sessions.

This is a common error that occurs when persons use a Netscape based browser (including AOL's integrated browser) to access the website at www.dl.ed.gov. Please encourage your borrowers to review the browser specifications that are available in the Web Site Help section of the website before they begin the on-line Direct Loan Entrance and/or Exit Counseling.

To avoid being disconnected, we recommend that borrowers use a recent version of Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, or the AOL browser. They can download updated versions from the Web Site Help section labeled "All about your Web browser". In addition to the free downloads, this section can help the borrower determine his computer settings and the optimum way to view the website.

If borrowers have questions regarding the online Entrance and/or Exit Counseling, please have them contact the Direct Loan Serving Center at 800/848-0979, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 8:30 PM (ET).

Sincerely,

Jane Holman
