Dear Partner:

This bulletin provides you with additional information on implementing the new electronic Master Promissory Note (MPN) for Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans. The new web site (http://dlenote.ed.gov) is now available for students to complete electronic MPNs.

If you want your students to complete an electronic MPN and you did not complete the Schools Options form that was attached to Direct Loan Bulletin 01-09, you may sign up now on the Direct Loan Origination web site. Your School Financial Aid Officer (SFAO) should access the new School Profile option on the LO web site and determine if a Loan Origination Record needs to be on file at the Loan Origination Center (LOC) in order for a student to complete an electronic MPN. If you do not select one of the options, your students will not be able to complete promissory notes electronically.

We are excited about this opportunity to offer an electronic MPN to your students, and thank you for your continued partnership in the Direct Loan program.

Sincerely,

Jane Holman
