Loan Origination Web Enhancements
March 2001
DLB 01-05
Subject: Loan Origination Web Enhancements
Dear Partner:
We have made recent changes to the Loan Origination Web site to give you more flexibility in processing loan data. The enhancements listed below will go into production on March 5, 2001.
Navigation
We made navigation of the site easier for users. You will no longer need to return to the main menu in order to choose a new function. The main menu will remain on the left-hand side of the screen.
Security
We also made changes to security to make it easier for School Financial Aid Officers (SFAO) to add and assign new roles. We have added many new options for roles. All users will be integrated into their new role. For instance, if a person is assigned as an Assistant Financial Aid Officer (AFAO), they will automatically be placed in the new role of AFAO Update (AFAO with update capability). There are also view only roles, where the user will not be allowed to make updates.
Change Record Processing
The major goal of the Loan Origination Online Web Application 3.0 release is to facilitate online change record processing to enable schools to directly modify person and loan information. Currently schools must submit batch records to modify this information. With this release you will be able to modify this information through the web interface. You will also be able to modify and add anticipated disbursements.
Audit History
As the web application offers schools the ability to modify crucial loan data with this release, schools will now require insight into the change processing requests made through the web application. A new feature will allow schools to review all changes made to loans or students that are managed by them. The audit information will be displayed by categories of changes that can be grouped into four areas: person, loan, disbursement, and credit check requests.
Master Promissory Note Review
Since the implementation of the Master Promissory Note (MPN), many schools have asked for a method to determine the necessity of processing a promissory note for students. The MPN Review option will allow schools to look up individuals in the Loan Origination System (LOS) and see whether promissory notes are on file for them. This will reduce the number of promissory notes that schools have to process and the delay in disbursing funds due to a lack of a promissory note on file at the LOC.
Batch Report Options
Schools and Third Party Servicers will now be able to discontinue receipt of reports that are no longer useful and to modify other existing reports into optional specified formats. This new functionality will enable report recipients to eliminate unnecessary processing and develop utilities to aid them in managing their loan program. The following reports can either be disabled or selected for processing in modified formats:
- Anticipated Disbursement Listing (ADL) – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- Actual Disbursement Roster (ADR) - Specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- 30 Day Warning – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- Inactive Loans – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- SSN/Name/Date of Birth – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- Pending SSN Changes Over 45 Days – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- DLSAS – Can disable only if program years is closed out or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- Disbursement Activity Not Yet Booked at Servicing - – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- Duplicate Borrower – Can disable or specify preformatted or delimited (comma or pipe)
- 732 – Can disable only if program years is closed out or specify report loan listing or report disburse activity
Loan File Rebuild
Schools frequently request data restores from the LOC due to either corruption of their system or data loss. They will now be able to make their requests through the web application instead of calling their Customer Service Representatives. They will be able to request the data by SSN, Loan ID, Date Range or Program Year for program years 2000/2001 and forward.
We hope that you find this information useful. If you experience any difficulty with the web site, please contact the LO Webmaster at LOS-LOWebApp@eds.com.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Direct Loan program.
Sincerely,
Jane Holman, Acting Director
