Dear Partner:
We are pleased to tell you of some new and revised Direct Loan publications that are now available from the Loan Origination Center (LOC). We have two new pamphlets: Direct PLUS Loan Basics -- Parent Loans for Students, and Direct Loans -- a simple, convenient, flexible way to finance your education. We also have a revised chapter for the Direct Loan School Guide: Chapter 6, Direct Loan Origination, Disclosure Statements, and Master Promissory Notes. And we have corrected and reprinted the Entrance Counseling Guide for Borrowers and the Exit Counseling Guide for Borrowers.
Our new concise brochure about Direct PLUS Loans, Direct PLUS Loan Basics -- Parent Loans for Students, will answer most of the questions borrowers have about PLUS loans. It also highlights "frequently asked questions" on the inside front cover and provides a directory of important addresses, web sites, and phone numbers at the back. This brochure replaces the March 1997 issue of Direct Loans: PLUS Loan Basics.
Another new brochure, Direct Loans -- a simple, convenient, flexible way to finance your education, replaces our earlier brochures about Direct Loans, A Better Way to Borrow and All About Direct Loans. The new pamphlet describes the types of loans, the application process for each, and the different repayment options. It also points out special features associated with Direct Loans and provides a list of pertinent addresses, phone numbers, and web sites.
Corrected copies of the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling Guide for Borrowers and the Exit Counseling Guide for Borrowers (both issued in late 1999 with errata sheets) are now available.
The LOC will be mailing you the revised Chapter 6 of the Direct Loan School Guide. It explains how Direct Loan schools and the LOC work together with borrowers to begin processing Direct Loans. Please replace the existing chapter with this revision. We will provide additional updates to the School Guides on an as-needed basis.
All of these publications may be ordered from the LOC using the attached form and faxing it to 1/800/557-7396. You also may call the LOC at 1/800/848-0978. We plan to have the publications available on the Direct Loan and ifap web sites in the near future.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Direct Loan program.
Sincerely,
Jane Holman
