PublicationDate: 10/1/2000 BulletinID: DLB - 00 - 49 October 2000 DLB 00-49 Subject: Direct Loan Servicing Web Site Developments for Borrowers and Schools Dear Partner: We want to share exciting news and information with you! First, our newly redesigned Direct Loan Servicing web site for Direct Loan borrowers has earned the 2000 Government Technology Leadership Award from the Government Executive Magazine. The web site was chosen from more than 60 nominations. Second, on October 9, we unveiled a new Servicing web site for schools Direct Loan Servicing Online for Schools and made some wonderful new enhancements to the Direct Loan Servicing Online Web site for borrowers. Check them out! You can access the borrower account site at www.dlservicer.ed.gov and the school site at www.dlservicer.ed.gov/schools. What are the new borrower web site enhancements? Exit Counseling -- We updated the Exit Counseling session to display all of the borrower's non-Direct student loan information provided by the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) in addition to the borrower's Direct Loan information. We also improved the repayment plan selection option by providing the borrower's actual loan information under each repayment plan. Further, the Exit Counseling quiz at the conclusion of the session has been modified to allow the borrower to pass the quiz with a 70 percent score instead of 100 percent. Online submission of deferment and forbearance requests -- The web site now allows a borrower to complete and electronically submit both the Unemployment Deferment and General Forbearance request online. Improved information center -- The Web Site Help, Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), and Glossary sections have been updated to provide additional information and improve the clarity of information throughout the site. Borrower satisfaction survey We have designed a survey tool to allow Direct Loans to capture borrower satisfaction information for use in defining future enhancements and trend analysis. Enhanced email management system This email management tool has been implemented to help the representatives at the Servicing Center maintain and manage email messages and respond more quickly. Can you still view the enhancements to the borrower web site without the required PIN? Yes, we have updated the Direct Loan Servicing Online Demo web site you currently have available to you. As you know, the demo site is an exact replica of the Direct Loan Servicing web site for borrowers including all of the improvements implemented. Listed below are test accounts for you to use in accessing this site. The test accounts have also been provided in the General Information section of your school web site. You may complete the exit counseling session, submit the Unemployment Deferment or General Forbearance online, or just view the new and improved Question Center. This is test data and no borrower will be affected by the changes you make. Note: To access account information on the demo web site, you will be required to log-on from the PIN registration page. To log-on with a PIN you will need SSN, first two letters of last name, DOB and a PIN (use five zeros as the PIN) as listed below. The Zip code is only required when logging into the Account Balance option. Demo URL: www.dlservicer.ed.gov/demo User List: What is the new school web site?
