Subject:
Direct Loan Origination Online Enhancements

Dear Partner:

We are pleased to announce new features on the Direct Loan Origination Online web site. We will implement the changes in two phases, the first on October 2, 2000, and the second on October 9, 2000.

As of October 2, 2000, users will no longer be on a secure server before logging on to the system. The new address for the home page will be
http://www.lo-online.ed.gov.

We have improved accessibility to the web site. We realize that many users have had difficulty accessing the site, and we have worked to correct this issue by making architectural changes, which should eliminate connectivity problem. If you experience difficulty with the web site, please contact the Loan Origination Center (LOC).

We have also improved the Loan Origination site to allow you to make online changes to the following demographic information:

Citizenship
Alien Registration Number
Date of Birth
Driver's License Number
Driver's License State
First Name
Last Name
Middle Initial
Permanent Address - 1 and 2
Permanent Address City
Permanent Address State
Permanent Zip Code and the +4 extension
Telephone Number - home, work, work extension, fax number

You can change the demographic information by changing the value in the appropriate field, then clicking the “Update Person” button to complete the change. The enhancement also allows you to return to the original data before submitting the changes to the LOC. You will not receive an acknowledgement from the LOC, but you will know that the change has been accepted by viewing the updated information on the screen. If the change does not pass an edit built into the system, you will receive a "pop-up" window informing you of which change was not accepted and which edit failed.

The changes that are made will be kept within the system. If questions arise, we can trace who made the change, when the change was made, what the value was prior to the change, and what the value was changed to.

On October 9, 2000, you will have the ability to access Direct Loan Servicing information. By using your existing log-in id and password, you will have a new menu option that will take you to new functionality available from Direct Loan Servicing. We will provide more information about this new functionality in a later Direct Loan Bulletin.

If you have suggestions for improving the web site or if you need technical assistance, please use the “Contact Us” feature on the home page or the “Feedback” feature within the system. You can also contact your Customer Service Representative at the LOC.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Jane Holman
