Subject: Extension of the Expiration Date for the “Revised” Master Promissory Note and Other MPN Information

Dear Partner:

Following is updated information pertaining to the “revised” Master Promissory Note (OMB No. 1840-0743--Expiration Date 9/30/99).

OMB has approved an extension of the expiration date for the “revised” Master Promissory Note (MPN) to 08/31/2002. The “revised” MPN form will have a new OMB form number. The new number is 1845-0007. We are in the process of changing the preprinted MPN to include the new form number and expiration date.

You may continue to use the existing supply of MPN forms with the 9/30/99 expiration date until the new version is printed. The new supply of MPN forms should be printed and available by the end of November.

If you create your own promissory notes, you must change your systems to adjust the OMB form number to 1845-0007 and to change the expiration date to 08/31/2002 on each page where the OMB box appears. Both numbers are in the OMB box in the upper right hand corner of the MPN form. In addition, you must change the OMB form number on the Instructions and Notices page (page 3). The OMB form number is in the second sentence of the section entitled, Paperwork Reduction Notice. The deadline for making these changes is December 31, 1999.

Please note that we are changing the font on the data labels for the data label version of the MPN form to be more compatible with the text on the rest of the MPN form. Mainframe schools may make this change as well if they wish. If you make the change, use Helvetica font, 9 point.
