Subject: Direct Loan Consolidation Training

Dear Partner:

This bulletin follows up on the recent Dear Colleague letter (ANN 99-06), dated June 15, 1999, which announced Direct Loan Consolidation training. The announcement and this bulletin tell you what topics the training will cover, who should attend, the training dates and locations, and how to register.

What will the training cover?

The training will cover basic concepts, processes and procedures for combining education loans into a Direct Consolidation Loan. Topics include:

• The consolidation process • Regaining Title IV eligibility
• Eligibility requirements • Counseling borrowers
• Repayment options • Borrower assistance service
• Deferment options • Other helpful tips

Who should attend?

Financial Aid professionals who want a more thorough knowledge of Direct Consolidation Loans in order to comfortably answer student or parent questions.

When and where is the training?

The training sessions are half a day, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The enclosed schedule identifies locations and dates.

How do I register?

To register for a training session, call the contact person for the location where you want to attend training. This training is free. However, you need to make your own travel and hotel arrangements. If you have questions about hotel accommodations or directions, the contact person can assist you.
