Subject: Questions and Answers Concerning the Use of the Master Promissory
Note in Academic Year 1999-2000

Dear Partner:

Many of you have raised questions about using the Master Promissory Note (MPN) for academic year 1999-2000. To answer those questions and circulate the information, we developed a list of Questions and Answers (Q&As) which is attached to this bulletin.

As you continue to work with the MPN, you may have additional questions. Please forward them via email to Jim Newell on the Direct Loan Task Force (
Jim_Newell@ed.gov). We will publish the answers in subsequent Direct Loan bulletins. You may also contact your Client Account Manager if you have questions about the MPN and its use.

Thank you for your continued support of the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Margaret E. White
Acting Chair
Direct Loan Task Force
