Subject: Update on the Scheduled Downtime at the Loan Origination Center

Dear Colleague,

This bulletin follows up on Direct Loan Bulletin 99-01, which notified you of a scheduled downtime at the Loan Origination Center (LOC) for a five-day period from March 1 to March 5, 1999. The Loan Origination System (LOS) will be down in order to upgrade the Direct Loan Program software for Program Year 1999-2000.

On Thursday night, February 25, 1999, the LOC will sweep the TIV WAN at 8:00 PM EST. The data will be processed and returned to the TIV WAN for schools to receive by 8:00 AM EST on Friday morning, February 26. On Friday night, February 26, the LOC will again sweep the TIV WAN at 8:00 PM EST. This data will not be returned to schools until 8:00 AM EST on Monday, March 8, 1999. Normal daily processing will resume on Monday, March 8.

For those schools that have the LOC draw down funds, the LOC will run a modified program on Wednesday, February 24, which will draw funds for disbursements through March 9. For those institutions that draw their own funds, the processing upgrade will not prevent them from doing so during the week of March 1 through March 8. However, it is possible that the funds will not show up on the DLSAS report until the following month.

The Loan Origination Center will be open during the week of March 1 to March 5, and Customer Service Representatives (CSR) will answer the phones. However, because the LOS database will be down, the call routing processes will be inactive. When you call the LOC your call will be answered by the first available CSR. If you wish to talk to your CSR, the LOC staff will transfer your call. Your CSR will take notes from the call and begin working on the questions and issues on Monday morning, March 8.

We apologize for the inconvenience this downtime will cause. However, the upgrade in the Direct Loan software will allow loans to be processed more efficiently.

Thank you for your continued support of the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Margaret E. White
Acting Chair
Direct Loan Task Force
