Subject: Drawdown Methods for Option 2 Schools

Dear Colleague:

Starting on March 8, 1999, when we begin accepting Direct Loan records for the 1999-2000 academic year, Option 2 schools may request Direct Loan funds only through the GAPS Web site or by telephoning GAPS at 800/336-8930.

You will no longer be able to request Direct Loan funds by using EDExpress or other software that generates batches of drawdown requests and sends them to the TIVWAN mailbox using message class DEDDyyIN. You will also no longer receive #J drawdown request acknowledgments.

The EDExpress Direct Loan software for 1999-2000 will not contain the functionality to generate and export drawdown request batches. Although that functionality will still appear in the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 software, the message classes for such requests will not be available.

We believe the GAPS Web site and telephone number are the quickest, most reliable means for Option 2 schools to request Direct Loan funds. If you have questions about drawing down Direct Loan funds, please contact the Accounting and Financial Management Service, Direct Loan Branch, at 202/205-6466.

Thank you for your continued support of the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Joe L. McCormick
Chair
