SUBJECT: Testing with the Loan Origination Center

Dear Colleague:

The Department of Education and Loan Origination Center (LOC)
would like to thank those schools that have been patiently waiting for
changes and corrections to data for academic years 1995-96 and
1996-97. The LOC is aggressively working to identify, categorize,
and create solutions to data problems. The process is working and
will be kept in place through July 31, 1998. Processing for 1997-98
also is going well, and there are many exciting changes under
consideration for the current processes as well as for academic year
1998-99. These changes will strengthen and improve the Direct
Loan program.

The LOC currently is developing new software for 1998-99
processing. There are minor changes to most of the LOC
subsystems; however, reconciliation is being redesigned. The LOC
requests that any school which had reconciliation processing issues
in 1995-96, 1996-97, or 1997-98, call the LOC to set up testing time
for 1998-99. The testing process can be used at any time during the
year.

The LOC also suggests that if a school changes software, they re-test
that software with the LOC. The re-testing can be done at any time.
With the increase in schools and volume of data, the LOC is working
to standardize all the current processes. Integrated testing with the
LOC is the best way to find system issues before they are found with
live data.

Thank you for your continued support of the Direct Loan program.

Sincerely,

Joe L. McCormick
