MARCH 1995 WILLIAM D. FORD FEDERAL
DIRECT LOAN PROGRAM

SUMMARY: DIRECT LOAN PUBLICATIONS UPDATE

Dear Year Two School:

We know that you are eager to begin participating
in the William D. Ford Direct Loan Program for
1995-96 and would like to receive information for
your students. A number of you have asked about the
availability of publications, including entrance and exit
counseling materials. We want to make sure you
understand that our existing materials were developed
for Year One and must be updated for Year
Two. The regulations published on December 1,
1994 made changes to the program, and we must
revise our materials so that you-and your students-will
not receive inaccurate information for 1995-96.

We are currently updating all publications; in fact, by
the time this letter reaches you, several basic information
pieces will have gone to print, including All About Direct
Loans, a booklet giving students the information they
need to know about the program. These booklets
should be available in April. We expect entrance
and exit counseling materials, including videos, to be
available later in the spring.

When various publications and other materials become
available, we will send you a letter and include an
order sheet. In the meantime, if you would like a
brochure giving a brief overview of Direct Loans, you
may order Direct Loans: A New Way to Borrow. We
developed this brochure for 1994-95, but the information
has not changed significantly. You may order by calling
the Direct Loan Servicing Center’s School Relations
Department at 1-800-848-0978.

NOTE:
We are revising and slightly expanding this publication;
it will be called Direct Loans: A Better Way to Borrow
and should be available in April as well.

Thank you for your interest in the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Diane Sedicum
Chair, Direct Loan Task Force
