Subject: 1998-99 Promissory Note Expiration Date is Extended to June 30, 1999

Dear Colleague:

The purpose of this letter is to advise you that the expiration date for the 1998-99 Direct Loan Promissory Notes has been extended to June 30, 1999. In Direct Loan Bulletin 98-06, we advised you that the Department of Education requested that the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) extend the expiration date for the Direct Loan promissory notes. OMB granted the six month extension on
February 25, 1998.

You may continue to use your current supply of 1998-99 promissory notes with the earlier expiration date of December 31, 1998, through June of 1999. It is not necessary to print new promissory notes with the 6/30/99 expiration date.

If you have questions about this bulletin or about the 1998-99 promissory notes, please contact your Client Account Manager. Thank you for your continued support of the Direct Loan Program.

Sincerely,

Joe L. McCormick
