SUMMARY: CASH MANAGEMENT AND DATA MATCHING
TRAINING

Dear Colleague:

As a participant in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program
(Direct Loans), we invite you to attend our 1997 training on cash
management and data matching to learn about changes in this
important area for the 1997-98 award year. The training will occur
between October and December 1997 in our regional training
facilities.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES

The one-day training sessions will help you better understand the
Direct Loan Cash Management and Data Matching process
(reconciliation). This training will also cover cash management
guidelines and focus on problem resolution in the data matching and
cash management process, which is essential to assist your institution
in closing out award years..

Upon completion of this training, you will:

- understand the changes for Year 4 processing
- understand the importance of cash management and the role of
data matching in the Direct Loan process
- understand basic concepts and terms
- understand the Direct Loan reporting requirements with respect
to the processes of cash management and data matching

This training will cover essential concepts that are vital to your
institution's success in administering the Direct Loan Program. The
training information is pertinent for all Direct Loan institutions
whether using EDExpress, a combination of PC with another system,
mainframe exclusively, or other software.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

All staff of the Financial Aid Office, Business, Fiscal, or Accounting
Offices, and the System or Computer Offices directly involved in the
cash management and data matching processes should attend this
training.

Institutions using third party servicers should encourage the
servicer's Direct Loan representative(s) to attend.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION

Enclosed is registration information. Each participant from your
institution must register in advance. We are unable to accommodate
walk-ins. The hours of training are from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Feel free to duplicate the enclosed registration information for your
colleagues.

Please submit your training request early due to limited space.
Please do not make travel arrangements before receiving a written
confirmation, as the Department of Education cannot be responsible
for any expenses you may incur for advance ticket purchases.

This training is free. However, participants are responsible for their
own transportation, meals, and overnight accommodations. If you
need additional information, please call the contact listed for the
location you wish to attend.

We look forward to seeing you at one of the upcoming training
sessions.
