SUBJECT: Disbursement Peak Season

Dear Colleague:

The Loan Origination Center (LOC) is preparing for the next round
of disbursement records that is scheduled from 12/20/97 through the
end of January 1998. The LOC has been processing disbursement
batches in a 24 hour turnaround time for all institutions. New
software enhancements will be ready this month to support what is
now called the disbursement peak season.

The LOC will be doing everything possible to keep the turnaround
time at 24 hours. However, if the volumes of records are excessive,
it may be necessary to spread the processing over several nights.
The LOC will process the batches in order of the date they are
received and plans to stay within the three day contractual
turnaround time. If, for any reason this is not the case, your CSR
will be in contact with you.

The Department of Education and the LOC wish you a wonderful
holiday season, and we look forward to successful loan processing
in 1998.

Sincerely,

Joe L. McCormick

Direct Loan Task Force
