Dear Colleague:

We are pleased to announce that the Direct Loan Servicer will be
available to take telephone calls and receive mail beginning on June
16, 1994. We are enclosing a list of the mailing addresses and
telephone numbers for your use to contact the Servicer.

The Direct Loan Servicer has established a special
staff, the "School Relations" Department, to work directly
with you at your institution as we continue to implement
the Direct Loan Program. The School Relations staff will be
available to take your calls and provide assistance to
you Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. until 5:00
p.m., your time.

To start, the School Relations staff is making an initial
call to each 1994-95 participating Direct Loan institution.
If you have not been contacted, please call School
Relations on 1-800-848-0978. One purpose of the initial
call is to determine whether schools would like to
either perform a transmission and data test with the
Servicer or to coordinate a controlled first transmission of
loan data with the Servicer. Testing or coordinating your initial
transmission of Direct Loan data is not required, but a
number of institutions are testing or have asked to coordinate
their "first live batch" so they can track it with the Servicer
and make sure the process works as they expect.

School Relations staff is taking over as your contact point
for bulk orders of Direct Loan printed materials. If you
need bulk quantities of Direct Loan materials, eg.,
Stafford Promissory Notes, PLUS Applications/Promissory
Notes, educational counseling materials, etc.,
please mail, FAX, or call School Relations. School
Relations will also answer your questions concerning the
status of the shipment of your bulk Direct Loan materials.
Note: contacting any other location about Direct Loan
materials will only delay your order.

We appreciate your continuing support of the Direct Loan
Program, and look forward to a successful "first
disbursement" on July 1, 1994.

Sincerely,

Diane Sedicum, Chair
Direct Loan Task Force
