Dear Colleague,

As we approach the peak processing time for schools in the Direct
Loan Program, we want to share certain procedures with Direct Loan
schools that will facilitate efficient and expeditious processing of
loans for your borrowers. Following the attached steps is essential
and will enable the Loan Origination Center (LOC) to process your
loan records quickly and with as little difficulty as possible. Failure
to follow these steps may delay Direct Loan processing at your
school.

In addition, if you need to modify your own internal processes to
fully comply with these steps, please do so as soon as possible. Any
adjustments made within your own systems that will improve the
successful transmission to and receipt of data from the new LOC in
Montgomery will greatly improve your loan origination processes.

The Department of Education and EDS are committed to providing
the necessary support to ensure that peak processing goes as
smoothly as possible. Your continued support, patience, and
cooperation are greatly appreciated. IF YOU HAVE ANY
QUESTIONS REGARDING THE CONTENTS OF THIS
BULLETIN, PLEASE CONTACT THE LOC DIRECTLY AT
1-800/848-0978.

Sincerely,

Joe L. McCormick, Chair
Direct Loan Task Force
