SUBJECT: Additional 1997-98 EDExpress Training and Direct
Loan Training

Dear Colleague:

We will be providing you access to EDExpress Training and Direct
Loan Training throughout the remainder of this calendar year. We
are offering one EDExpress session and one Direct Loan session per
month through December. Below is a description of the training.

GETTING STARTED WITH EDE--NOVICE (ONE DAY
SESSION)

This session is for schools that have little or no experience with
Electronic Data Exchange, the service that allows schools to
electronically process Title IV financial aid data using the Title IV
Wide Area Network, and/or EDExpress, the software developed by
ED to aid schools in those processes. It covers the basic process of
EDE, including how data is exchanged, transmitted and received; the
use and navigation of EDExpress to create, send and receive data;
and the use of the Title IV WAN network in transmitting data.

1997-98 DIRECT LOAN TRAINING (TWO DAY SESSION)

This session is for new or current Direct Loan schools. It will aid
participants in understanding the loan process and the procedures for
sending and receiving data from the Direct Loan Origination Center.
The curriculum combines programmatic and policy information with
hands-on instruction on the EDExpress software supporting Direct
Loan functions.

The training dates, locations and contacts are listed in the chart on
the next page. To register please use the Registration form provided.
To make travel convenient for those who would like to attend both
sessions, the Getting Started with EDE is always held the day before
the Direct Loan session begins.

Please note that there is a requirement for a minimum of 10
registrants in order for a class to be held as planned. If at least 10
people have not registered within two weeks prior to the class, we
will request that all registrants attend next months class. However,
training will not be postponed two months in a row due to the
number of registrants.
