Subject: Additional COD System Implementation for 2011-2012 Award Year and Direct Loan Origination Tool Changes
During the period July 8-9, 2011, we will implement additional Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System functionality that supports processing for the 2011-2012 Award Year. The functionality included in this COD System release was explained in a June 30, 2011 Electronic Announcement posted on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site.
In this update, we explain changes that are specific to foreign schools, including changes to the Direct Loan Origination Tool (DLOT), which will also be implemented with this COD System release. It is important that you read the information in both the announcement and this update.
Changes Specific to Foreign Schools
COD Web Response Activity Option
Beginning July 9, 2011, we will default the COD Web Response Activity Option to Yes (‘Y’). This means a foreign school will receive responses for its activity on the COD Web site.
If a foreign school does not want to receive responses for its Web activity, it must change the COD Web Activity Response Option to No (‘N’) on the COD Web site's School Options Information page or by calling the COD School Relations Center for assistance.
School Option Information Page Updates
Beginning July 9, 2011, foreign school users will be able to update the following school options on the COD Web site’s School Options Information page:
Batch Receipt Option
Web Activity Response Option
Schema Version for System Generated Response
eMPN Message
School Name
Award Date Range Request (#1-4)
Display “Other” Option
PLUS Application Message
Beginning July 9, 2011, foreign schools will not be able to update the following school options on the COD Web site’s School Options Information page:
Participate in Electronic Parent/Grad PLUS Application
Electronic Parent/Grad PLUS Application Date Range
Parent/Grad PLUS Application Response Option
If a foreign school wants to change one of these options, it must contact the COD School Relations Center.
Direct Loan Origination Tool Changes
The following changes will be made to the DLOT. Unless otherwise noted, the changes apply to the processing of Direct Subsidized Loan, Direct Unsubsidized Loan, and Direct PLUS Loan awards and for all award years.
Beginning July 9, 2011, the DLOT will be updated to:
Automatically populate the Disbursement Release Indicator (DRI). If the disbursement date is up to seven days in the future or any date in the past, the DLOT will default the DRI to a value of True. If the disbursement date is more than seven days in the future, the DLOT will default the DRI to a value of False. As a result of this change, a school no longer populates this field in the DLOT.
Allow users to view Central Processing System (CPS) transaction data from the Student Management page. The student SSNs on the Student Management page will hyperlink to a pop-up box that displays the student’s CPS data. The page will also include a new column that displays the most recent CPS transaction number on file for the student.
Create batch IDs in which the last eight digits will be a reporting school’s COD ID instead of a random number.
