The Department proposes to modify the system of records notice entitled “Aid Awareness and Application Processing” (18–11–21). As described in greater detail below, these modifications include the addition to the Aid Awareness and Application Processing (AAAP) system of records of the information collected through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) Processing System (FPS), which will modernize the legacy Central Processing System (CPS) with new, more efficient technology such as cloud storage. CPS is the information system within the AAAP system of records that currently processes data from the FAFSA. CPS will process award year 2023–2024 data through September 30, 2024. In addition to the incorporation of FPS, the modifications to the AAAP system will also allow the Department to implement two new laws for the 2024–2025 FAFSA award year: the FAFSA Simplification Act and the Fostering Undergraduate Talent by Unlocking Resources for Education (FUTURE) Act.
