End of Federal Fiscal Year 2026 – Impact on Funds Availability for Campus-Based, Pell Grant, TEACH Grant, and Direct Loan Programs (G5 and COD System)

The federal fiscal year for the U.S. Department of Education (ED) ends on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026. Some of ED’s core financial systems, including G5, will be on a modified processing schedule while ED finalizes its processing and accounting for Fiscal Year 2026. These modifications will affect how the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System will process financial data and when schools can obtain funds for the federal student aid programs as follows:

  • The G5 website will not be available from 3 p.m. Eastern time (ET) on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, through 5 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026. Schools will not be able to draw down Campus-Based, Federal Pell Grant (Pell Grant), Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant, or William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) funds during this period. Schools will be able to draw down under their existing authorizations once G5 reopens.

  • The COD System will continue to accept Pell Grant, TEACH Grant, and Direct Loan records. However, after 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, the COD System will not process current funding level changes (as a result of actual disbursements) or funding until G5 reopens.

The COD System must receive and accept all actual disbursements with a disbursement date of Sept. 30, 2026, or Oct. 1, 2026, no later than 8 a.m. ET on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2026, in order to generate the appropriate funding level increase prior to the G5 shutdown. Once G5 reopens, it will fund disbursements

  • submitted by the deadline but not subsequently accepted,

  • submitted after the deadline, and

  • with a disbursement date after Oct. 1, 2026.

Schools should also refer to the following Electronic Announcements related to the Sept. 30, 2026, processing deadline:

Schools should ensure that 1) they obtain all necessary reports and 2) they submit and the COD System accepts all applicable 2025–26 origination, disbursement, and change records prior to the processing deadlines.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete the required activities during the upcoming period. We expect financial processing to be caught up by the end of the following week.
