2027–28 FAFSA Preview Presentation (Updated Oct. 5, 2026)
Note

Update on Oct. 5, 2026: We have added a missing slide about parent assets to the Dependent Student – Required Parent scenario. For the most complete version of that scenario, download the updated Dependent Student – Required Parent or All Scenarios file.

We are pleased to share the preview presentation for the online 2027–28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form. The preview presentation includes an overview and screenshots of the online 2027–28 form. It also explains what differs from the 2026-27 form. Financial aid administrators, mentors, and counselors can use and modify the preview presentation to create staff training, hold FAFSA completion events, and update resources.

The presentation shows the FAFSA landing page and submission summary and demonstrates the following common user scenarios:

  • Creating a StudentAid.gov account

  • Completing and submitting a FAFSA form as:

    • A dependent student who is required to invite a parent

    • A dependent student whose parent declines to add their information

    • A dependent student who has experienced homelessness

    • A dependent student with unusual circumstances

    • An independent student who is required to invite their spouse

    • An independent student who is single and didn't file taxes

    • A student who has to complete identity verification

  • A student editing a submitted FAFSA form to:

    • Add a school

    • Replace an invited contributor

    • Update their initial answer to the homeless determination question

  • A student looking for their required contributor's invitation code

You can also use the 2027–28 FAFSA prototype to preview most of these, as well as other, scenarios.

Note: The presentation features test data. Also, the actual 2027–28 FAFSA form is still in development. Some screenshots may vary slightly from pages in the form that will be available on fafsa.gov by Oct. 1. For instance, some labels might differ. We’ll update the presentation as needed to reflect changes to the form made after the release of this presentation.
