Federal Student Aid (FSA) is aware of an issue that had been preventing the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS®) from processing some financial aid history (FAH) output requests.
Beginning Aug. 2, 2026, NSLDS began applying internal validation edits to the “Servicer Code” field (positions 56–63) in the header record of the TSM/FAH batch inform file. These edits relied on NSLDS legacy validation logic that compared the submitted servicer code against a historical NSLDS identifier. Due to implementation and configuration issues, NSLDS inadvertently introduced additional edits, resulting in incorrect rejection of some records, generation of 104 005 error codes in the TSM/FAH error/acknowledgement file, and failure to deliver the expected FAH outputs from FAH requests.
NSLDS removed all servicer code-based edits on Aug. 28, 2026. NSLDS will no longer generate error code 104 005 based on the value entered in the servicer code field of the header record in the TSM/FAH batch inform file.
If your school submitted files between Aug. 2, 2026, and Aug. 28, 2026, you may have received the unintended 104 005 error code as a result of this issue and may not have received FAH outputs. Once the fix has been implemented on Aug. 28, 2026, NSLDS will reprocess any affected FAH requests that received the 104 005 error. Schools should expect to receive their FAH outputs during the week of Aug. 31, 2026.
Reminder: NSLDS generates a TSM/FAH error/acknowledgement file for each TSM/FAH inform file it receives and successfully processes. If you do not receive a TSM/FAH error/acknowledgement file after submitting a TSM/FAH inform file, the entire TSM/FAH inform file failed file-level validation. Your school or servicer should contact the NSLDS Customer Support Center for assistance.
We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused and appreciate your patience while we worked to resolve it.
We would also like to make users aware of two updates to the warning and error codes in the TSM/FAH error/acknowledgement file.
-
104 033 (TG number not valid for school’s TSM functionality) has been updated.
-
NSLDS will now generate this error code when the TG number is invalid for TSM only.
-
If a school submits a “T” request (add student to the school’s TSM list only) and the TG number in the inform file does not match the TG number listed in the school’s inform preferences on its TSM and FAH profile, NSLDS will send the school the 104 033 error and will not add the records that errored to the school’s TSM list.
-
If a school submits a “B” request (both request FAH on a student and add the student to the school’s TSM list) and the TG number in the inform file does not match the TG number listed in the school’s TSM inform preferences on the TSM and FAH profile, NSLDS will send the school the 104 033 error for the TSM portion of the request only. However, the 104 033 error invalidates the entire “B” request for that record; therefore, NSLDS will not add the student to the school’s TSM list and will not process the financial aid history request.
-
Schools should also verify that the TG mailbox entered for the TSM monitoring and alert preferences is valid on the NSLDS Professional Access website under the school’s TSM and FAH profile or through the FSA Partner Connect website. If it is not, NSLDS will generate the 104 033 error.

-
104 034 (TG number is not valid for school’s FAH functionality) is a new error code.
-
We have created this error code to generate when the TG number is invalid for FAH only.
-
If a school submits an “H” request (FAH only) and the TG number in the inform file does not match the TG number listed in the school’s FAH inform preferences on the TSM and FAH profile, NSLDS will send the school the 104 034 error and will not send FAH outputs for the records that resulted in the error.
-
If a school submits a “B” request (both request FAH on a student and add the student to the school’s TSM List) and the TG number in the inform file does not match the TG number listed in the school’s FAH inform preferences on the TSM and FAH profile, NSLDS will send the school the 104 034 error for the FAH portion of the request only. However, a 104 034 error invalidates the entire “B” request for that record; therefore, NSLDS will not add the student to the school’s TSM list and will not process the financial aid history request.

Reminder: Schools can view their TG mailbox preferences in their TSM and FAH profile through NSLDS Professional Access or FSA Partner Connect. However, schools can only update their TG mailbox for FAH preferences through FSA Partner Connect.
We have also updated the NSLDS Transfer Student Monitoring & Financial Aid History User Guide and Record Layouts to reflect these updates.
