New service releases are available for EDExpress for Windows 2025–26, Release 2.0 and EDExpress for Windows 2026–27, Release 2.0 to align with recent processing changes in the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, as described in the June 10, 2026, Electronic Announcement:
-
Both service releases update the Direct Loan module to either suppress (for 2025–26) or require (for 2026–27) reporting of the “Enrollment Status Effective Date” value as a disbursement-level data element.
-
The EDExpress 2026–27 service release also adds new enrollment status values for students who are on a leave of absence or have withdrawn.
The service releases also resolve software issues reported to the FPS Help Desk as described below.
Refer to the sections below for guidance and tips on downloading and running the service release installation files for the specified cycle.
In addition to the updates described above, both service releases resolve software issues reported to and confirmed by the FPS Help Desk.
In the EDExpress 2026–27 service release, we have fixed the issues that were preventing users from:
-
printing user-defined letters using the SSN file option;
-
importing ISIR files generated prior to the implementation of the updated record layout in late April 2026;
-
originating Direct Loan records assigned a disbursement profile with a single disbursement and the “Are You a Special School?” option selected;
-
importing Credit Status Response (message class CRCS27OP) files if they contain Direct Loan PLUS records without a loan ID;
-
printing COD Common Record Response import edit reports; and
-
performing external exports of Direct Loan disbursement data.
The EDExpress 2025–26 service release resolves an issue causing Direct Loan records to reject during COD System processing due to an incorrect Country Code.
You must have EDExpress 2026–27, Release 2.0 installed on your PC before running the 2026–27 service release file. You can download Release 2.0 from the “Software and Other Tools” page of the Knowledge Center website.
To download the EDExpress 2026–27, Release 2.0 service release installation file (EDE27_Jul2026_ReleaseV1.exe), open the service release in the “Software” section of the “EDExpress 2026–2027” page. The software file will begin downloading when you click on the link under “Attachments.”
Due to the redesigned installation process for EDExpress 2026–27, you are now only required to confirm the location on your workstation where you want EDExpress 2026–27 program files installed. You should run the service release installation on all workstations that you use for Direct Loan processing.
When you first access EDExpress 2026–27 following service release installation, a quick database update process will run. When this process is complete, you can resume normal use of the software.
For more detailed information and guidance on EDExpress 2026–27 installation and initial setup, see the EDExpress 2026–27 Installation Guide, which is available for download from the Knowledge Center website.

Note the following additional tips when loading the EDExpress 2025–26 service release file to your PC workstation(s):
-
Be sure to close EDExpress on your PC(s) before performing the download and copy procedure.
-
Microsoft Windows users must have admin rights to the PC workstation(s) running EDExpress to run the service release file installation.
-
If you receive a message indicating you cannot overwrite the file (usually due to a “sharing violation”), restart your computer and try again. Windows may think the file overwritten by the service release file installation is in use until you restart.
-
If your EDExpress database is installed on a network drive, and you have multiple PC workstations accessing that database, you must run the service release file installation on each workstation.
