COD System Implementation for 2026–27 Award Year (Updated June 10, 2026)
Note

Update on June 10, 2026: The COD System will no longer use the “Program Attendance Begin Date” field. Schools should not send this information to the COD System. Refer to the June 10, 2026, Electronic Announcement for more information.

On April 26, 2026, we plan to implement Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System functionality that supports the processing of Federal Pell Grant, Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant, and William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan awards and supports the Campus-Based programs for the 2026–27 award year.

The U.S. Department of Education is currently engaged in rulemaking on numerous One Big Beautiful Bill Act provisions. While final regulations are forthcoming, we are providing this technical guidance to support institutions, states, and vendors in preparing their systems to implement these changes. If the forthcoming regulations result in changes to these technical updates, we will provide additional guidance at that time.

COD System Outage Information

We will suspend COD batch processing from midnight until 11 a.m. Eastern time (ET) on Sunday, April 26, 2026, to implement the COD System functionality. During the outage, we will hold any records that schools submit and process them when the outage is over.

In addition, during the outage users will not be able to

  • submit or retrieve data via the COD website, and

  • access the “COD Reports” area of the COD website.
