Note

Update on Aug. 4. 2025: We are pleased to announce the publication of additional 2026-27 test ISIRs. This additional set of system-generated ISIRs provides a broader array and higher volume of test data than contained in the initial release. The test ISIRs, as well as an open-source tool that can be used to view the ISIRs, are stored in a public Department of Education GitHub repository. Those interested in these materials can access this repository to view and download files. As noted below, the test ISIRs are also available as an attachment to the 2026–27 FAFSA Specifications Guide under Volume 9 – Testing and Web Demo System.

We are pleased to announce the availability of a 2026–27 Institutional Student Information Record (ISIR) test data file for use in system testing by schools, state agencies, software providers, and other agencies and entities. Testing is optional. The file is a tool to help ensure that your processing system is prepared for the ISIR data that will be produced by the FAFSA Processing System (FPS).

These 2026–27 system-generated test ISIRs are intended to provide our partners with an early set of test ISIRs for testing the 2026–27 ISIR layout and several different scenarios, while we continue to finalize our system testing.

For more information on the 2026–27 ISIR changes and the current ISIR record layout, refer to Volume 4ARecord Layouts of the 2026–27 FAFSA Specifications Guide, available for download from the Knowledge Center website.
