We are pleased to announce the availability of the initial 2025–26 Federal School Code (FSC) List of Participating Schools. The Federal School Code List contains the unique codes assigned by the Department of Education for schools participating in the Title IV federal student aid programs. Students enter these codes on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form to indicate which postsecondary schools will receive the processed application results.
The Federal School Code List of Participating Schools is available electronically in PDF format and as a Microsoft Excel (XLS) file, and is posted on a quarterly basis. The XLS file provides the most current FSC information available in a searchable format. There is also search functionality available on fafsa.gov.
Submitting Updates to FSC Information
School name and address information must be kept current. If your school's name or address has changed, you must provide the updated information through the Electronic Application for Approval to Participate in the Federal Student Financial Aid Programs (E-App) (https://fsapartners.ed.gov/title-iv-program-eligibility/title-iv-participation-application). This information will be used to update the Federal School Code List of Participating Schools.
To customize how your school’s name appears on the Federal School Code List of Participating Schools, and how it will display on fafsa.gov, select the “Update/Report Information–Federal School Code” Purpose on the E-App. Then go to the “Location” Section, and update the Federal School Code name field. For approved additional locations, go to the “Location” Section, select the “edit” icon for the location you are updating, and update the Federal School Code Name field. There will be a suggested Federal School Code name displayed but the field is editable.
Please keep in mind that there is a 40-character limit on the E-App, so schools should abbreviate accordingly.
To request a change to your FSC address, please contact your School Participation Division for assistance.
To request that an FSC be created for an approved additional location, users should select the Update/Report Information–Federal School Code Purpose. In the Location Section, select the edit icon for the additional location you are requesting an FSC for (question #7): “Do you want this location to have a Federal School Code?”
Note: A school can only have one city and state for each FSC.
