Beginning next month, federal student loan servicer the Missouri Higher Education Loan Authority (MOHELA) will begin transitioning borrower accounts to their new loan servicing platform that will better serve borrowers. Borrowers whose federal student loans are currently serviced by MOHELA will still have MOHELA as a servicer once this transition is complete but will access their account through a new website.
Note: This servicing system change will not affect the existing terms, conditions, interest rates, loan discharge or forgiveness programs, or available repayment plans on any borrower’s loans.
For more information, visit StudentAid.gov/MOHELAtransitions and MOHELA’s transfer information page.
What should borrowers expect during this transition?
In the coming weeks and months, borrowers will receive a notice of transition from MOHELA that they are about to transition their federal student loans to a new platform. Borrowers will then be notified by MOHELA when the transition is complete, and their loan information has been loaded to the new system. Borrowers will also receive notices before and after the transition from the U.S. Department of Education (ED)’s office of Federal Student Aid (FSA).
MOHELA will continue transitioning borrower accounts throughout the winter and spring until all borrowers have been transitioned to the new loan servicing platform.
Borrowers should closely read each notice for more details about the transition and instructions for them to follow once their account transition is complete.
