On June 2, 2023, we will send the message class "MESSAGTB" via the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG) to all user mailboxes. The EDconnect transmission software will automatically request, download, and import this new message class table with a user’s next connection to the SAIG network. Once the MESSAGTB file has been imported, the new message class table will be used from that point forward.
COD Message Classes
Under the FAFSA Simplification Act, we will use school-reported data for the Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program to accurately calculate the Student Aid Index (SAI) for aid recipients. To facilitate this data collection process, the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System will implement the Campus-Based Common Record XML Schema 1.0a later this summer.
In preparation for the upcoming COD System implementation, we will add new message classes to the message class table for seamless transmission of Campus-Based program data to the COD System. The Campus-Based Common Record Message Classes are fully outlined in Volume 4, Section 3 of the 2023-2024 COD Technical Reference and will be in use after the July 2023 implementation of COD System functionality.
Update, Import, and Installation Information
The message class table update will be transparent to users except for an Import dialog box, which will appear on a user’s screen and display the progress of the import as the file is importing.
The new message class table file will also be available in the Software and Other Tools section of the Knowledge Center website (https://fsapartners.ed.gov/knowledge-center/topics/software-and-other-tools).
Using Multiple Networked PCs – If a user has performed a network installation of EDconnect, the new message class table will import into the EDconnect database on the user’s network drive. Individual workstations will all have access to the new message class table after it has been imported.
Using Multiple Stand-Alone PCs – If using the current version of EDconnect, the message class table will automatically download and update EDconnect on each PC that initiates a transmission.
