StudentAid.gov – Managing High Volume of Visitors

On Aug. 24, 2022, President Biden announced the Student Debt Relief Plan. It includes a one-time student loan cancellation to be granted based on income, and it also extends the student loan payment pause through Dec. 31, 2022. The announcement has generated significant interest in our StudentAid.gov website. We are ensuring that everyone who visits StudentAid.gov can access the site. To manage the high volumes of visitors and prevent login errors, we have activated a Waiting Room for StudentAid.gov.

What is the Waiting Room?

The Waiting Room is a “Please Wait” screen that may appear when a visitor reaches StudentAid.gov. The screen explains that the visitor will be able to proceed to the site momentarily. Based on site traffic, the average wait time on this screen has been one to two minutes. We monitor and adjust the wait time, based on the number of visitors to the site, to keep the wait as short as possible and to limit login errors. After a brief wait, visitors can access StudentAid.gov.

We understand that students and other visitors will pose questions to schools and members of the financial aid community about access to StudentAid.gov. Thank you for helping us by explaining the Waiting Room to those visitors. We appreciate your and their patience.
