We are pleased to announce the posting of an updated version of the 2021–2022 Electronic Data Exchange (EDE) Technical Reference. The EDE Technical Reference provides programmer specifications, record layouts, and other detailed information for schools or other organizations that need to design software systems to interface with Federal Student Aid's application processing system.
In this update, we revised the technical reference to reflect that the Central Processing System (CPS) now uses the Death Indicator field from the Social Security Administration (SSA) to determine if 2021–22 applicant and/or applicant’s parents are deceased. The updates include:
-
In Section 3 (Record Layouts), we updated the descriptions of the Parent 1 and Parent SSN Match Flag 5 to reference the death indicator.
-
In Section 3, we also updated the description for the “Blank” value for the SSA Citizenship Flag to “No match conducted if SSN Match Flag does not equal 4.”
-
In Section 4 (Processing Codes), we updated ISIR Reject Reason 8 to reference the death indicator.
For more information, see the Change History table posted with the updated technical reference sections.
These changes have been incorporated in the 2022–2023 EDE Technical Reference Oct. 4, 2021, update.
