Subject: TEACH Grant Reconsideration Process
We are pleased to announce the launch of our Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Reconsideration Process.
As explained in a December 2018 electronic announcement, TEACH Grant reconsideration is a process through which certain TEACH Grant recipients whose TEACH Grants were converted to Direct Unsubsidized Loans can request reconsideration of those conversions. Recipients are eligible to request reconsideration if they met or are meeting the TEACH Grant service requirements within the eight-year service obligation period, but had their grants converted to loans because they did not comply with the annual certification requirement.
During the week of Feb. 4, 2019, we will email individuals who are eligible to request TEACH Grant reconsideration. Individuals who receive that email, sent from “noreply@studentloans.gov,” may qualify to have their eligible Direct Unsubsidized Loans converted back to TEACH Grants if they can show the following:
They completed their required four years of qualifying teaching within their eight-year TEACH Grant service obligation period.
They have not yet completed all four years of required teaching, but they are currently working, or expect to work, in a qualifying teaching position that meets the terms and conditions of their TEACH Grant service obligation, and they will be able to complete their required four years of teaching within their eight-year TEACH Grant service obligation period.
OR
In addition to the email campaign, we explain at StudentAid.gov/teach-reconsideration how TEACH Grant recipients may request reconsideration of their converted TEACH Grants.
Complete information about TEACH Grants is available on the TEACH Grant information page.
