Subject: TPD Discharge Information – Updated Total and Permanent Disability Discharge Loan Holder Notification File Effective April 2018
In this announcement, we provide updated information about the Total and Permanent Disability Loan Holder Notification (TPD LHN) File used in Total and Permanent Disability (TPD) Discharge processing. As a reminder, the TPD LHN File is used to communicate information to Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program guaranty agencies, FFEL Program lenders or lender servicers, and Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program schools about individuals whose TPD discharge applications are received by the U.S. Department of Education (the Department). This version of the TPD LHN File supersedes all previous guidance.
TPD LHN File Changes Effective April 2018
As explained in an April 2018 Electronic Announcement, we will begin to identify and assist disabled federal student loan borrowers who may be eligible for a TPD discharge using information provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). With this change, we will make one adjustment to the TPD LHN File: a new value of “VA2” will be added to the “TPD Type” field in the file. Otherwise, the file format (.csv) and delivery options (Student Aid Internet Gateway mailbox or email) will remain unchanged.
We provide more detailed information about the TPD LHN File in two attachments to this announcement.
