Subject: Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #96 - Updated GE Debt-to-Earnings Backup Data Viewer Tool Now Available
An updated version of the Gainful Employment (GE) Debt-to-Earnings Backup Data Viewer Tool is now available for download from the "Resources" section of the Gainful Employment Information Page on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) website. We have updated the tool’s Export to Spreadsheet feature, which allows the user to export the GE Debt Measures Backup Data detail file to a spreadsheet application, to resolve an issue with several fields on the spreadsheet populating with incorrect data.
Note: We have not made any changes to the Viewer portion of the tool. If an institution is not using the Export to Spreadsheet feature, there is no need to download this update.
As we described in Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #93, the GE Debt-to-Earnings Backup Data Viewer Tool is an executable software file that can be used to display an institution’s GE Debt Measures Backup Data detail file in a viewable, user-friendly format.
To download the updated tool from the IFAP website, click on the “GE Debt-to-Earnings Backup Data Viewer Tool” link in the "Resources" section of the Gainful Employment Information Page. Institutions should then save the file to a location on their computer, open the zip file from that location, and unzip the software file (NSLDSGEDebtViewer.jar).
Additional information and specifics on how to use functions of the GE Debt-to-Earnings Backup Data Viewer Tool are available in the tool’s instruction guide, available along with the tool in the "Resources" section of the Gainful Employment Information Page.
