Subject: Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #87 - Updated NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide and GE Program Tracking Information
We would like to inform the community of an update to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) Gainful Employment User Guide, as well as provide important information about GE Program Tracking functionality.
Updated NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide
An updated version of the NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide is now available on the NSLDS User Documentation page on the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site. The updated NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide can also be downloaded from the "Resources" section of the Gainful Employment Information Page.
In this update of the User Guide we have added Chapter 7, "Final GE Completers List," to describe the Final GE Completers List which will be sent to institutions in the near future. Information is also provided in Chapter 7 about functionality that will be implemented soon on the NSLDS Professional Access Web site, to display the results of the Department's review of corrections submitted by institutions to their Draft GE Completers Lists. Please monitor the IFAP Web site for a forthcoming Electronic Announcement that will provide more detail about these upcoming activities related to the GE Completers Lists.
The updated NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide also includes a new Appendix D, "GE Debt Measures Backup Data Record Layout." The fixed-width file layout may be used by institutions to prepare their systems to receive the GE Debt Measures Backup Data files that will be provided later this fall.
Important Information about GE Program Tracking Functionality
In the August 2016 version of the NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide we removed Chapter 4, "GE Program Tracking." The Program Tracking functionality on the NSLDS Professional Access Web site has been removed. We will inform the community with an Electronic Announcement posted to the IFAP Web site about future program tracking functionality. In the meantime, institutions should review disbursement records sent to the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System, enrollment records sent to NSLDS, and their GE certifications that were submitted to Federal Student Aid's School Participation Division to ensure that the institution is reporting on all of its GE programs as is required by October 1, 2016.
