Subject: Gainful Employment Electronic Announcement #86 - Upcoming October 1, 2016 GE Reporting Deadline for the 2015-2016 Award Year
Under the gainful employment (GE) final regulations the deadline for institutions to report GE Program information for the 2015-2016 Award Year is October 1, 2016.
We encourage institutions to begin submitting their GE data for the 2015-2016 Award Year to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) as early as possible. As in the past, institutions may submit the information using the GE online reporting option under the Enrollment tab of the NSLDS Professional Access Web site; the GE batch file submission process through the Student Aid Internet Gateway (SAIG); or by using the NSLDS Gainful Employment Spreadsheet Submittal Format (online upload process). See the “Reporting Resources” section below for more information about these options.
Reporting Reminders
Prior Year’s Reporting – In addition to the required 2015-2016 Award Year reporting, revisions to previously-reported GE information must also be submitted by October 1, 2016.
Title IV Students - We would also like to remind institutions that GE reporting must only include students who received Title IV aid to attend the GE Program being reported.
Reporting Resources
To assist institutions with the GE reporting process, the NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide is available in the NSLDS User Documentation section of the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site. The guide may also be downloaded from the "Resources" section of the Gainful Employment Information Page.
For information about creation of the GE Reporting Submittal file for the batch submission process, the NSLDS Gainful Employment Submittal File Record Layouts, dated January 9, 2015, are available in the NSLDS Record Layouts section on the IFAP Web site in both fixed-width and comma separated values (CSV) format. The layouts are also available in Appendix A of the NSLDS Gainful Employment User Guide.
In addition, the NSLDS Gainful Employment Spreadsheet Submittal Format is available as an online reporting method institutions can use to submit GE data. The NSLDS Gainful Employment Spreadsheet Submittal Format, available on the Federal Student Aid Download (FSAdownload) Web site, is designed to be used with the Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheet application and allows for a file up to 1,000 KB in size (approximately 1 MB) to be uploaded at a time. After the institution adds GE information to the spreadsheet, it can upload and transfer the data to the NSLDS Professional Access Web site. Step-by-step instructions for the upload process are provided in the instruction guide, also available on the FSAdownload Web site.
