Subject: September 29 Deadline for Responding to Invitation to Participate in the Experimental Sites Initiative

On July 31, 2014, we published a that invites postsecondary educational institutions to apply to participate in four new institutionally-based experiments under the Experimental Sites Initiative (ESI). These experiments support President Obama’s higher education initiatives. As is fully described in the July 31 notice, the new experiments are:

    • Prior Learning Assessment
    • Competency-Based Education
    • Limited Direct Assessment
    • Federal Work-Study for Near Peer Counseling

If your institution is interested in being considered for participation in any of the experiments, please let us know by sending a brief letter of application in the form of a PDF attachment to an email message to experimentalsites@ed.gov. Note that letters of application must be submitted to the Department no later than September 29, 2014 to receive priority consideration for participation. Please follow the submission guidance provided in the July 31, 2014 notice. Submitting a letter of application does not commit the institution to participate in an experiment. Nor does it commit the Department to approve an institution's request to participate.

Again, the deadline for receiving priority consideration is September 29, 2014.

We thank you in advance for your interest in the ESI.

If you have any questions please send an email to: experimentalsites@ed.gov.
