Subject: Availability of EDExpress for Windows 2014-2015, Release 3.0
Release 3.0 updates the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) and Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant modules to implement critical enhancements related to the 150% Direct Subsidized Loan Limit and other new data reporting requirements for the 2014-2015 Award Year. Release 3.0 also implements enhancements to Financial Aid Shopping Sheet functionality.
Important Note: You must upgrade to Release 3.0 to originate or export Direct Loan and TEACH Grant records to the Common Origination and Disbursement (COD) System for the 2014-2015 Award Year. If you created Direct Loan or TEACH Grant records using EDExpress 2014-2015, Release 2.0, you must update the records with new required origination and disbursement data elements in Release 3.0 to finalize the records for processing by the COD System. For more detailed guidance regarding the updates you must make to EDExpress setup and existing Direct Loan and TEACH Grant records after upgrading to Release 3.0, review the user documentation posted with the software or the June 20, 2014 electronic announcement posted to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site.
In addition to the Release 3.0 software, the following new and modified EDExpress 2014-2015 documents are now available on the FSAdownload Web site:
The EDExpress for Windows 2014-2015, Release 3.0 Cover Letter (provides detailed information regarding enhancements and other updates in Release 3.0)
The EDExpress for Windows 2014-2015, Release 2.0 Desk Reference (revised from April 2014 version to add guidance regarding EDExpress Direct Loan and TEACH Grant enhancements implemented in Release 3.0)
The EDExpress for Windows 2014-2015, Release 1.0 Desk Reference (revised from January 2014 version to add guidance regarding Financial Aid Shopping Sheet enhancements implemented in Release 3.0)
Also, the June 2014 version of the 2014-2015 COD Technical Reference, Volume III (Combination System Supplement) coincides with Release 3.0 and includes new message classes (in Section 2), new record layout data elements (in Section 3), and new data edits (in Section 4) associated with enhancements to the Direct Loan and TEACH Grant modules in Release 3.0. If you plan to use Release 3.0 in combination with an external system to add or modify Direct Loan or TEACH Grant records using external import functionality, you must follow the record layouts and other information in the June 2014 version of Section 3.
The EDExpress for Windows 2014-2015 Installation Guide, available on the FSAdownload Web site, also contains important technical information and guidance regarding EDExpress 2014-2015 that you should review.
