Subject: Upcoming Distribution of 2013-2014 Renewal FAFSA Reminders

The distribution of 2013-2014 Renewal Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) Reminders by the Central Processing System (CPS) will begin on January 17, 2013 and will continue through January 23, 2013.

Note: In the November 1, 2012 electronic announcement posted to the Information for Financial Aid Professionals (IFAP) Web site, we identified January 13, 2013 through February 10, 2013 as the date range for sending Renewal Reminder e-mails to eligible students. We have since updated the dates for this process to January 17-23, 2013, as described above.

Renewal Reminder e-mail notifications will be sent to students who are renewal-eligible for 2013-2014 and who qualified for reminders by January 8, 2013. Eligible students must have a valid e-mail address on their 2012-2013 record to receive a 2013-2014 Renewal Reminder e-mail.

Please note the following additional information:

  • As described in the November 1, 2012 electronic announcement, we have discontinued all paper Renewal Reminders. In prior cycles, paper Renewal Reminder letters were mailed to students who did not provide an e-mail address on their FAFSA. Removing the paper letter option reinforces our ongoing effort to emphasize electronic communication over postal mail.
  • A student may become renewal-eligible for 2013-2014 after January 8, 2013 if he or she initially files a 2012-2013 FAFSA or if a correction is made to his or her 2012-2013 record after January 8, 2013 that creates a renewal-eligible record. This student is eligible to complete the 2013-2014 renewal application, but will not receive a Renewal Reminder e-mail.
  • We will not send Renewal Reminders to renewal-eligible students who already have a processed 2013-2014 FAFSA by January 15, 2013.

For more information on the Renewal Reminder process, see the November 1, 2012 electronic announcement.
